100 years Flanders Fields

Ypres, the Great War in Flanders Fields and the relaxing aftermath in ‘medieval’ Bruges, at O’teur.

From 1914 up to 1918, Ypres was the scene of some of the most important battles in the first World War. It was later referred to as the Great War. In the trenches all around Ypres extremely bloody battles were fought. Many of these battlefields have left their traces in the landscape around Ypres.

Visit the various Ypres Battlefields and discover how the profound impressions of the Great War remain today. Tips for visit are the In Flanders Field Museum {www.inflandersfields.be/en‎}, Ypres War Memorial (Menin Gate) {http://www.lastpost.be}, Sanctuary Wood Museum Hill 62 {http://www.greatwar.co.uk/ypres-salient/museum-sanctuary-wood.htm} and the Ypres Cloth Hall {http://www.trabel.com/ieper/ieper-clothhall.htm}.

The Cloth Hall served as the main market and warehouse for the Ypres’ prosperous cloth industry. To this day it recalls the importance and wealth of the medieval trade city.

When finishing up in Ypres, be sure to make a stop in the world famous ‘Middle Ages’ town Bruges. And have a relaxing bite at O’teur, Steenstraat 96, 8000 Bruges.
